Glow-in-the-dark PLA is the filament most likely to underwhelm on the first print, and almost always for a reason that has nothing to do with the filament.
The glow comes from phosphorescent pigment that absorbs light and releases it slowly. How bright your print glows depends on how much pigment is in the light path, which means it depends on how thick your walls are.
Why thin prints barely glow
A print with two 0.4 mm perimeters has roughly 0.8 mm of glowing material at the surface. A print with five perimeters has 2 mm. That is more than twice the pigment charging and releasing light in the same area, and the difference is immediately obvious in a dark room.
Infill does very little here, because light released deep inside the print never reaches your eye. What matters is the shell.

Prints like standard PLA otherwise. The glow pigment is mildly abrasive, so a hardened nozzle is recommended.
Good applications
Light switch surrounds, door and step markers, costume and cosplay parts, signage, toys, and anything that needs to be findable at night. It is genuinely useful for power-cut markers: label your torch shelf or fuse box and it stays visible when the lights go.
Available glowing green or blue. Green is noticeably brighter to the human eye and holds its glow longer; blue looks better in daylight.
Maximising the glow
- Increase perimeters. Four to six walls instead of two. This is the single biggest factor.
- Charge it properly. Bright white light, up close, for a minute. Sunlight or a phone torch both work well.
- Use a hardened nozzle. The pigment is abrasive over time.
- The daylight appearance is a pale green or blue-white, and it does not take paint well without primer.
