PLA+ Enhanced Print Settings and When to Use It

Standard PLA is the easiest filament in the world to print, and also the first one to let you down the moment a part has to do real work. PLA+ (what we call PLA Enhanced) is the fix: the same forgiving behaviour on the bed, with noticeably better layer adhesion and impact resistance.

It is also a high-flow formula, which matters more than most people expect. If your printer can move quickly, a high-flow PLA is what lets it actually do so without under-extruding.

What PLA+ actually improves

Three things, in order of how much you will notice them:

  • Layer adhesion. This is where standard PLA fails first. Parts snap along layer lines under modest load. PLA+ bonds better between layers, so a bracket or clip survives being flexed.
  • Impact resistance. Standard PLA is brittle. Drop a print and it shatters. PLA+ absorbs a little more before it gives up.
  • Flow rate. The formula is tuned to extrude cleanly at higher speeds, so fast profiles stop producing gaps and weak walls.

What it does not change: heat resistance. PLA+ is still PLA. Leave a part in a car in a Lebanese summer and it will sag. If heat is the problem, you want PETG or ASA instead.

EMBERFORM PLA Enhanced at a glance

Diameter 1.75 mm (±0.03 mm)
Net weight 1 kg
Spool length ~340 m
Nozzle temperature 190-210 °C
Bed temperature 50-80 °C
Price $12 per spool

Start at 200 °C and move in 5 °C steps. Hotter improves layer bonding; cooler improves fine detail. A heated bed is not strictly required but it makes first layers far more reliable.

What to print with it

PLA+ is the sensible default for most of what comes off a hobby printer: prototypes, miniatures, household fixes, props, organisers, and any print where you want a good surface finish without babysitting the machine. It is also the right pick for high-volume printing, because the speed advantage compounds across a long queue.

It comes in 13 colours, which makes it the practical choice when you need a specific colour to match something rather than whatever the shelf has.

Getting the most out of it

  • Run cooling at or near full. PLA likes it, and it sharpens overhangs and small details.
  • If you are chasing speed, raise temperature before you raise flow. Under-extrusion at high speed is almost always a heat problem.
  • Store spools sealed with desiccant. PLA is not as thirsty as nylon, but damp PLA still prints rougher and sounds like it is popping.
